According to the EST (Energy Saving Trust) an average British household will emit some six tonnes of CO2 and spend nearly £900 on power and fuel annually. Replacing an aging conventional boiler with a condensing boiler could immediately make a 30% +  saving which can increase to 40% when combined with upgraded heating controls. An older type of boiler may only convert 60% of gas usage into useful heat while a condensing boiler can have a 97% efficiency conversion. Even replacing a 15 year old boiler with a new high-efficiency, fan assisted equivalent will save up to 20% on fuel costs

Condensing boilers are generally more expensive to install but will save money on heating bills and reduce your carbon footprint. By law (since April 1st 2005) most new gas boilers fitted in Scotland must be of the high efficiency condensing type where suitable.
